April 18, 2011- There are many places around the beautiful United States but there are few that are more beautiful than Bar Harbor, Maine and Acadia National Park in the summer. Located on Mount Desert Island, the town starts to awaken from winter recess sometime in late March or early April. Once Memorial Day arrives the entire town is ready to welcome the millions of travelers that visit annually.

There are many reasons to come and visit this area on the Maine coast but the one thing that draws more visitors than any other attraction is Acadia National Park. Filled with lakes, streams, mountains and a myriad of walking trails and carriage roads to bike on,  this National Park is the ideal family spot.

Cadillac Mountain, part of the park, overlooks the town of Bar Harbor, famous for its friendly people great lobster and down home charm that fewer and fewer places have been able to retain. The town is full of shops selling trinkets, shirts and hats as well as fine art and other valuable items. Restaurants are abundant and usually cater to the seafood crowd as the town is on the coast and lobster is the name of the game!! But all foods are available and prices range from reasonable to expensive.

Lodging accommodations are available everywhere from camping and RV parks to five star hotels and everything in between. There are plenty of attractions in the Park including visiting Sand Beach, Thunderhole and Cadillac Mountain. If the high seas are to your liking then there are whale watches, day cruises and deep sea fishing.

Just make sure you plan ahead because Bar Harbor and the surrounding area fills up and fills up fast.
