March 16, 2012- On Thursday, comedian Russell Brand was arrested by New Orleans police. He was taken into custody and booked on charges of criminal damage. He allegedly grabbed the iPhone of a photographer and threw it through a nearby window.
The British actor and comedian had his bail set at $5,000. Shortly following his arrest Brand was released said a police spokesperson. Photos have been posted online of Brand grabbing a man’s iPhone through the window of a car. Another photo posted online shows a window that has been smashed apparently by the iPhone that Brand allegedly threw.
No confirmation has been made as to whether Brand was arrested against his will or if the actor turned himself into authorities, after a paparazzi photographer filed a complaint on Monday.
Brand however, took to his Tweeter page to defend himself. He tweeted, “Since Mr. Jobs has passed away, I have not been able to watch anyone use an iPhone in a bad way, what I did was in Mr. Jobs’ memory, a tribute to him.”
Katy Perry, the pop star, and Brand recently completed a high profile divorce that ended a marriage of just more than a year. Brand has had a number of clashes with the law over a period of years and has been open about his past substance abuse problems.
