Couple Demands Champagne Forcing Flight To Be Diverted

A German couple were kicked off a Cosa Rica bound plane when they asked for a glass of champagne.

January 17, 2012- An unruly couple caused a Delta Airlines flight en route to Costa Rica from Atlanta to be diverted to Florida. On Sunday evening, a German couple became disruptive demanding to be served champagne and the plane changed course and landed in Tampa.

Flight 414 left Atlanta Sunday evening bound for Costa Rica but the captain requested permission to land to take the uncooperative couple off the plane. Once authorities took the couple away, the plane proceeded to Costa Rica.

The couple was in the first class cabin, demanded to be served champagne and food, and would not sit down. As of yet, no charges have been filed against the couple but both the Transportation Security Administration and the FBI were investigating.

The couple said after the incident that members of the Delta crew, “enormously over exaggerated the incident.”

The woman, identified as Gabriele Strohmaier, said her husband requested a glass of champagne. The crewmember told him they did not have any more. Mrs. Strohmaier then said the crewmember left without listening to her husband’s concerns. She also denied that either one of them had been told to sit and refused to do so.

The couple said the crewmember told them their attitude did not please her. The couple also told reporters they would take another airline to Costa Rica.
