As the U.S. declines into a police state more and more people are being subjected to intrusive body searches.
December 6, 2011- Ruth Sherman, a JetBlue frequent flyer who is 88 years old, has flown on multiple occasions between New York and Florida. However, she had never been taken into a private room and asked to take off her pants. She alleges that is what happened recently at John F. Kennedy Airport.
Sherman is the secondly elderly female in just days to allege that agents from TSA demanded she expose herself while going through security screening before boarding her aircraft. A woman from Long Beach, New York said TSA security personnel forced her to remove her pants when searched at Kennedy Airport on November 29.
Sherman was on her way back to Florida after spending the Thanksgiving holiday in New York with family. Her x-ray indicated a bulge where her colostomy bag was located on one side of her body. She was taken aside and received a pat down. After that, screeners ordered her to another room where they strip-searched her.
She said her privacy was invaded as the screeners asked her to pull of her pants as well as her underwear. She claimed the situation was horrible as she was on medication and was afraid she would get high blood pressure.
A spokesperson for TSA said, “A preliminary review indicates all procedures were followed according to policy.”
