British singer George Michael is in critical condition in hospital due to severe pneumonia.
November 26, 2011- British entertainer George Michael has had to cancel the rest of his European tour as doctors announced on Friday he is battling a very severe case of pneumonia. Earlier in the week, Michael was rushed to a Vienna hospital complaining of severe pains in his chest, just hours prior to one of his scheduled tour dates.
His publicist released a statement saying he had pneumonia and any other speculation about the nature of his illness is untrue. The statement went on to say the doctors were not sure of how long the entertainer would need to recover and the rest of his “Symphonica” tour had been cancelled.
There were 14 dates remaining on the tour including three in London at Earl’s Court just prior to Christmas. Two doctors in Vienna released a statement that said, “Mr. Michael is suffering from severe community acquired pneumonia and is an inpatient at the hospital.” The statement concluded by saying, “Michael’s condition has been stabilized and he continues to respond to treatment.”
He is believed to be strapped to a futuristic bed that is for patients with severe pneumonia. The bed is made to mimic the natural movements of the body to help blood flow and is equipped with an apparatus that helps reduce pressure on the patient’s lungs. The bed’s rotations help to stop complications due to immobility from occurring.
