Facebook Opening App Store

Facebook is joining Apple and Google with it's own app store.

May 10, 2012- On Wednesday, Facebook announced it was opening its own app store. The online store will be called App Center and puts the social networking company in line with other tech companies such as Apple. Apple has the App Store, while Google has the Google Play online store.

In the upcoming weeks, users can access the new App Center, through Android or iOS, said one of Facebook’s developer blogs. Facebook said the App Center would become the central place where its 901 million users can find apps.

The center has a page that details how to use the center to purchase apps and helps users see the uniqueness of apps. Apps in the center can be both purchased and free. Success of the App Center, said Facebook, depends upon the quality of the apps and they will use things such as user ratings to determine if they should list an app in the center.

Apps that are well designed will be displayed prominently, while those with user ratings that are poor or have not met the quality guidelines will not be listed on the center. The ad center will also have a mobile center for mobile device compatible apps that can be downloaded.
