Facebook Users Like Connecting Via Mobile Device

Facebook is looking to appeal to mobile users in 2012.

December 30, 2011- Facebook, the world’s largest online socializing site, has over 300 million users each month that access its site via mobile devices. Users accessing the site on mobile device are using mainly Android or iOS. A recent report showed that more than two-thirds of the 300 million monthly users log on through apps that are powered by Android or iOS.

One reason for the sudden increase in accessing via mobile devices is Christmas. One of the most popular gifts this holiday season has been mobile devices and in particular, those run on iOS and Android systems. Android leads the pack in active daily users while Apple has passed the 100 million mark for active monthly users.

Two other mobile devices; Blackberry by Research In Motion and the Windows Phone have not had the same success. The Windows Phone has still not generated the expected sales and popularity the company had anticipated. That may change in 2012 as Nokia has joined forces with Windows to turn the tide. Many of RIMs users have downloaded the Facebook app but the popularity of the Blackberry has fallen off tremendously in the second half of 2011.

In 2012, Facebook will look at mobile users as a core product instead of an extension of those using a desktop. The company will start focusing on them as a core product first through the advertising they use.
