Hugh Jackman Film Is Weekend Leader

The new Hugh Jackman film, Real Steel, is the new leader at the box-office.

October 10, 2011- The latest film starring Hugh Jackman has won this past weekend’s box office battle. Real Steel racked in just over $27.3 million making it the easy winner over the second place finisher Ides of March, a movie starring George Clooney. The bout between Clooney and Jackman in the box office ring was won by the boxing based movie, as Clooney’s was only able to generate $10.4 million.

Real Steel takes place in the future and Jackman plays the trainer of a robot that doubles as a boxer. Ides of March is a political drama that starred Clooney and that he directed.

This was the first time in over four weeks that two debuting films took the first and second spots in the weekend box office take. Jackman’s boxing movie has been touted as being Sci-Fi but is also very much about family as it centers round the dysfunctional relationship between a father and his son. The film is based on Steel, a short story written in 1956 that was later converted into a Twilight Zone episode for television.

Critics have not given the film much more than a mediocre review but the film’s audience rated it very high according to exit polls. Rounding out the top five were Dolphin Tale that took in $9.2 million, Moneyball that earned $7.5 million and 50/50 with $5.5 million.
