
The Hunger Games continues to dominate at the box office with another top grossing week-end.
April 16, 2012- The Hunger Games won the box office receipts war in North America this past weekend. It was the hit films’ fourth consecutive week of winning the top spot. The film earned $21.5 million for the weekend. The movie now has an overall take of over $337 million. The movie is based on Suzanne Collins’ book about a female teenager who must fight to death on reality TV.
Hunger Games edged out The Three Stooges, a new movie that is a tribute by the Farrrelly brothers to the comedy trio. The Stooges took in $17.1 million for the weekend. A much hyped horror movie, The Cabin in the Woods, took third place in its debut weekend by earning a respectable $14.85 million.
Titanic’s re-release that has been 3D-enhanced starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio finished fourth with sales of $11.6 million. The world commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Titanic tragedy over the weekend.
American Pie sequel American Reunion landed in fifth place this weekend with sales of $10.6 million. A rehash of Snow White called Mirror Mirror was sixth at $7 million. Seventh place on the weekend went to Wrath of the Titans by earning $6.9 million and was followed by the remake of the TV series from the 1980s 21 Jump Street that earned $6.8 million. Lockout earned ninth place with $6.25 million in sales and the tenth and final spot in the top 10 went to The Lorax, which earned $3 million.
