Apple's photo sharing app Instagram is taking the world by storm.
March 12 ,2012- The app of iPhone that is dedicated to photo sharing, Instagram, has reached 27 million users. The app helps even the most novice photographer become artful. Just last December, the number of registered users was only at 15 million. The co-founders of the app said an Android version was going to be released soon.
Kevin Systrom, the CEO, said they have put together an incredible app for Android. He was giving a speech at the South by Southwest conference and using a phone with an Android platform prototype. He said it was exceptionally fast, as he has used it for a while since he smashed his iPhone while exiting a pedicab in Austin, Texas.
Currently the app is only in private beta for the Android but will be available to the public very soon. Instagram is also taking a look at the Windows Phone 7 for another future platform. The company is growing very quickly. The company was started by Systrom and Mike Krieger in 2010 and already has more registered users than Foursquare even though it is only available for use on the iOS by Apple.
The company attributes its growth to the iPhone’s huge popularity and the fact that Apple voted the Instagram as its App of the Year for 2011. A Best Buy advertisement that aired during the Super Bowl where the two appeared did not hurt either.
The app helps users to enhance the quality of their photos through the use of filters and it allows them to share with friends or others and to comment on the photos.
