November 9, 2011- A computer software security consultant has said that the Apple App store could be infiltrated by malware apps. The apps he says, could cause a substantial amount of risk to customers. The security consultant was able to sell Apple an app that exploited a bug in iOS. The app, once installed sent a signal to the consultant’s home requesting more downloads.
The discovery of this in the end will help both Apple and its customers. Now Apple is aware of its vulnerability and could help it avoid the problems that Android has faced over the last year with malware. Nevertheless, Apple is not pleased. Apple booted the consultant out of their developer program for iOS.
The consultant said he contacted Apple back in October about the flaw with iOS but did not tell Apple about putting his app up for sale. He says he did not tell them about the app because it was the only way to prove how serious the flaw in the system was.
Apple has said he is banned for one complete year from the iOS developer program. The hope is Apple with remedy the problem so that its users will not face problems with malware infiltrating their system, networks or any other mobile device.
