A troubled man who accused Syracuse University assistant coach Bernie Fine of molesting him has recanted.
April 14, 2012- The man who accused an ex-assistant basketball coach at Syracuse University of sexually molesting him when he was a child, said on Friday that he had lied. Zachary Tomaselli said, “I fabricated the entire story about Mr. Fine.”
Tomaselli said he never had even met Fine. Tomaselli went on to say, “Basically you can call me a sociopath. I enjoy lying very much.”
Tomaselli had notified authorities that Fine watched pornography with him in 2002. Following the pornography, Tomaselli said that Fine fondled him inside a Pittsburgh hotel room. He said he had gone to the hotel to watch a Syracuse basketball game.
Last December, Tomaselli sued Fine, but weeks later, his own lawyer dismissed the suit. His lawyer, Jeff Anderson said, “Zachary is a troubled person and I hope he finds the help he needs.”
Tomaselli was one of many who accused the coach of molesting them. That led to Fine’s eventual firing in November of last year. Two former ball players from Syracuse Bobby Davis and his stepbrother Mike Lang came forward with accusations that said Fine had molested them for a number of years.
Prosecutors cannot charge Fine even though the accusations by the two men are credible. The authorities said the statue of limitations has run out.
