London appears to have been a big recipient of new jobs from the Olympics.
September 12, 2012- According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of people in unemployment fell by 7000 in the quarter to July.
London accounted for 5500 of the fall in the quarter. It is anticipated that this is due to the recent Olympic games held in London.
This is the biggest rise that the UK has seen in the last two years and people are hoping that the situation will continue to improve. The total number of people currently employed stands at 29.6 million. However, many experts believe that this is perhaps just a temporary boost and will disappear with the Olympic fever.
While London largely benefitted from the Olympic games, many places outside London did not profit extensively from the event, with many regions in the UK suffering from the rises in unemployment.
The fall in the current unemployment status was a welcome change in the UK. Nevertheless, experts do realize that this was mostly due to the Olympics hiring and the bigger picture is still more or less the same. Government hopes are that the private sector will create some amount of job opportunities to balance the job cuts that have been implemented by the public sector.
At this point, the only hope shared by both politicians and the general population is that the Olympics boost will continue for much longer than anticipated.
