Samsung Overtakes Apple in Smartphone Manufacturing

Samsung has overtaken Apple in smartphone production.

October 29, 2011- South Korea-based Samsung Electronics passed Apple as the largest maker of smartphones in the world during the third quarter from July to September. The company increased its shipments during the quarter by more than 44%. Samsung also announced its forecast for the fourth quarter includes strong sales. This has sent out a warning to all its rivals.

Just last year Samsung started in earnest in the smartphone market. Nevertheless, it has seen sales skyrocket due to its sleek phone production system that can quickly and efficiently bring new products to the consumer. Apple however has been in the smartphone market since 2007.

Samsung’s only real rival in the handset market is the iPhone 4S from Apple said one analyst. Kim Hyun-joong went on to say, “Samsung and Apple will continue their dominance during the fourth quarter.”

Friday’s announcement of profits from its telecom division showed a record amount of $2.2 billion accounting for over 60% of the total profit in the company. This helped the company offset a sharp drop in its memory-chips division that has long been its bread and butter division.

Samsung shipped over 27.7 million units during the recently ended quarter. That number was four times higher from the previous year. The company expects earnings to increase during the last quarter of 2011.
