Seal Beach Salon Killer Identified

A California man has been identified as the killer in a beauty salon shooting in California.

October 13, 2011- Eight people were killed Wednesday in the normally quiet beach community of Seal Beach, California. A gunman, identified as Scott Evans Dekraai, sprayed gunfire inside a busy beauty salon then walked to his truck and drove off.

Officers stopped the suspect less than a mile away where he surrendered. The arresting officers said the suspect had a number of weapons in his possession when arrested. He was then taken to jail and book for suspicion of murder. Five women and one man died at the scene and one woman and one man died at a nearby hospital. One woman remains in critical condition.

People familiar with the salon said on Wednesday night that the gunman was one of the stylists’ ex-husband. Police believe there may be a motive linked to a possible relationship with someone in the hair salon, but they would not elaborate any further.

One salon owner just two doors away said gunshots were heard and they saw a man shot while in the parking lot. The workers at the salon and their customers then quickly locked themselves in the bathroom.

Following the arrest of the suspect, police went to a home in neighboring Huntington Beach, accompanied two women to a white car, and roped off the house with yellow crime scene tape. Friends that know the suspect and his ex-wife said they had been involved in hotly contested dispute over the custody of their child.
