Sinéad O’Connor Will Not Tour

Pop star Sinéad O’Connor is battling mental illness.

April 25, 2012- Many thought that after seeing the latest shows from the enigmatic singer she had left her many troubles behind her. However, that was not the case, as the 45-year said she was terrified and would have to cancel her tour. The U.S. tour was cancelled due to the battles she continues to have with her bipolar disorder

She posted the announcement on her website and her Facebook page. The statement read, “It is with great regret that I announce I have cancelled all my touring for 2011, as I am not well because of my bipolar disorder.”

O’Connor has been upfront and open about her struggles with the disorder. She discussed it at length in an interview on the Oprah Winfrey Show five years ago. In that interview, she said she had gone through times of thinking about committing suicide. She could only describe it at that time as being very, very sad.

She said in her statement on Monday that she had suffered a breakdown sometime between December and March. She was advised by her medical caregivers to cancel the tour, which would have seen her visit Los Angeles and many other cities in the U.S.

O’Connor was recently in the news for her personal life. Last year she made a public quest to get married. She succeeded and was married to a younger man in December. However, the couple split after only two weeks of being together.
